Honesty first - build the skill of internal integrity (I.e. - when you say you will do something, you do it) first; then make resolutions: New Year's and otherwise.
If you are skilled at not listening to yourself, your brain doesn't care what you write down for goals. Start with something simple. Move to something still pretty easy, like getting up on time or early even. Build the skill of honesty with yourself. Then try stratospheric changes, like the total behavioral and belief system alteration that's involved in weight loss or fitness.
